CoderDojo

Computer programming languages are increasingly becoming important in the modern world and we know that it is both better and easier to learn these skills early. We at NewDay United are committed to ensuring that nobody should be denied the opportunity to learn!

CoderDojo is our programming club that is reaching young people between the ages of 7 to 17, where they are learning to:

  • write code
  • build a website
  • create an app or a game
  • and explore technology in an informal, creative, fun, and social environment.

Within CoderDojo there is a focus on:

  • peer learning
  • youth mentoring
  • and self-led learning.

Our aim is to help young people realise that they can build a positive future through coding, design, and community.

One of the ways our CoderDojo’s have been putting their coding skills into practice has been through an initiative by the European Space Agency’s (ESA) education programme.

As part of Mission Zero, our team from Tambo Village collaborated with children from countries across the globe writing code to send to real astronauts on a real spacecraft! The code was used to measure spacecraft humidity, with the astronauts sending the humidity reading and a message back to each team. How cool is that?!
